Rising fuel prices: airline shakeout in the books? | AeroTime

As of May 11, 2018, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) estimates the jet fuel price average for this year will rise above the feared $80 per barrel mark. With this, the impact on 2018 fuel bill of the global airline industry is estimated to be $39.3 billion. But do rising oil prices mean only bad news for airlines around the world? For Ryanair, at least, a fuel-price surge may force weaker competitors out of business.

Saudia flight crash lands after hydraulic malfunction

An A330-200 of Saudi Arabian Airlines carried out an emergency landing in King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on May 21, 2018, resulting to 53 passengers being injured. The plane was forced to undergo a belly landing, as the hydraulic system in its front landing gear malfunctioned. The bottom of the aircraft suffered heavy damages after its nose sank into the ground.

Air Belgium ready to take off after Russian approval

Air Belgium announced that it would start its operations on June 3, 2018. Its first flight will be from Brussels South Charleroi Airport (CRL), Belgium, to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) in China. The airline initially planned to start on April 30, 2018. However, it lacked the necessary authorizations from Russia to travel through its airspace.
