Turkish Airlines helps set up national carrier Air Albania

You may have heard of such carriers as Air Malta, Air Italy, Air Serbia… But have you heard of Air Albania? The proposed new national carrier for Albania, a small country in southern Europe, is expected to begin operations within weeks. It is a joint venture between Turkish Airlines, which will hold a 49% stake in the new airline, and other investors. Turkish Airlines have been assisting Albania in setting up its new national carrier, as it previously did with Bosnia and Herzegovina’s flag carrier Air Bosna. Why are airlines like Turkish or Etihad venturing out of their comfort zone into foreign airline ownership, particularly in the Balkans?

IndiGo and SpiceJet come to near collision after pilots mistake

An IndiGo Airbus A320-232 and a SpiceJet Boeing 737-800 came face to face on a runway of Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport (VNS) in Varanasi, India on June 12, 2018. The incident was the result of SpiceJet pilots’ failure to comply with Air Traffic Control (ATC) instructions.

First “free” flight in national airspace for NASA Ikhana drone

NASA announced successfully flying its Ikhana drone in the U.S. national airspace without using a safety chase plane. The goal of the test flight carried out on June 12, 2018, was to determine if an unmanned aircraft could operate safely within the airspace shared by commercial and private aircraft.

U.S. government approves sale of six Apache helicopters to India

The United States government approved the sale of six Boeing AH-64 Apache attack helicopters to India for a total of $930 million. The contract will now be presented to the U.S. Congress for approval.
